The summer is here!

The sun is shining, a warm breeze is blowing and you feel the start of summer in your heart. What are your plans? I invite you to make a pause in your hectic schedule and include in your to-do-list a time for recreation and relaxation. Yes, it is time to take a vacation.

You have probably felt overwhelmed by work or felt so passionate about a project that it’s difficult to separate your professional life from your personal life. Nevertheless, it is very important to set limits and to include a recreational space in your daily routine to avoid feeling run down. This way, you can be more productive, more creative and more efficient. Everybody needs to take a break from time to time and recharge their energy.

Taking a vacation can be very restorative, as it can bring positive effects on our physical and mental health. Exposing our brain to different environments, getting to know new cultures, and visiting unfamiliar places hold many benefits. Situations that offer a challenge can motivate the brain to create new connections, increasing its capacity.

The good news is that you don’t have to receive these benefits from traveling to a far away and exotic country. I’d like to share some tips on distracting your mind from work responsibilities:

  1. Reconnect with life’s little pleasures. Take the day off, or at least take a few hours to go and exercise, take on a hobby, or look out for cultural events that can help you relax, and refresh your perspective. This way, your brain reactivates areas that you normally don’t use. 
  2. Living new experiences is good for your mental health, as your brain becomes more perceptive and better at taking on new challenges or solving problems. Don’t be afraid of new experiences. Try out new things every day.
  3. If you’re having a tough time solving a problem, you might be needing a break. By changing the scenery, you boost creativity, allowing ideas to flow. 
  4. Switch off from external distractions and learn to be present in this moment and time. Take 15 minutes a day to reconnect with your center. Shut out all outer noises and focus on your inner self. These moments will nurture your spirit and clear your mind.                                                                                                                                         

We live in a fast-paced environment these days, as we are constantly pressured to be efficient and productive. Life in this world demands us to attentively solve problems all the time, and many things seem to happen at once. Nevertheless, it’s very important to keep a balance in life by not getting ourselves wrapped up in our tasks and responsibilities. Taking a timely break will enhance the motor that propels you to go further in the path of achieving your goals.
