How to Avoid Skin Dehydration at your Next Music Festival

How to Avoid Skin Dehydration at your Next Music Festival

Thousands of fans will be attending BottleRock Nappy Valley this Memorial Day weekend. Will you be among them? If so, keep in mind that a full day of Foo Fighters, Tom Petty and Maroon 5 will give you more than a musical experience. All those hours standing in the sun can give you a serious burn and cause skin dehydration.

Does this mean you should skip the event? Fortunately, no. You can enjoy all the festival has to offer and still enjoy healthy skin, too. It simply requires a bit of prep work before you join the crowds and the proper skin care after the music stops.

Pre-Festival Skin Care Prep

Whether you plan to attend one day or all three, it’s important to protect your skin from the exposure it will receive during long hours outdoors. Use this checklist to help prevent dehydrated skin symptoms.

  • Apply a broad-spectrum sun screen. This will protect your skin from both UVA and UVB rays.  Re-apply sunscreen at least every three hours. At an all-day festival, that’s usually after two or three performances. As you’re waiting for the next artist to begin their set, take a quick break and re-apply.
  • Wear sunglasses. This will help protect the sensitive skin around your eyes, and it also prevents squinting into the sun all day, which causes eye contour wrinkles.
  • Dress in layers. Wearing long sleeves is best, but this can be tough if the temperature rises. Try bringing a long-sleeve shirt you can slip on for at least part of the day, to minimize the all-day exposure that will cause dehydrated skin symptoms.
  • Enjoy the shade. If you can find a shady spot, claim it. Or, if you’ll be setting up camp somewhere to enjoy a full day of festivities, consider bringing an umbrella you can prop up to provide shade for the day.

Why are these steps so important? Because spending a full day in the sun is harsh on your skin. It causes skin dehydration such as itching, burning, redness, inflammation, flaking, and sensitivity. Prolonged sun exposure can cause:

  • Skin burn
  • Wrinkles
  • Fine lines
  • Dark spots
  • Premature aging
  • Acne

Taking the suggested precautions will minimize these dehydrated skin symptoms.

Post-Festival Skin Protection

Even with the proper prep, your skin may burn or tan after three days of exposure. To remove discoloration and prevent dehydrated skin symptoms, use natural remedies that restore and rejuvenate your skin. Combining nutrient-rich ingredients – found right in your kitchen – will provide the healing effects your skin needs to recover from your time outdoors.

6 Remedies to Protect Against Skin Dehydration

Following are six of the top remedies to remove sun tan and protect you from dehydrated skin symptoms. These methods heal the sun damage in a natural, nourishing way. Use them when you return from the BottleRock Nappy Valley Music Festival, or any time you experience major sun exposure.

Tomato Pack: To remove dark spots and pigmentation from sun-tanned skin, use this great combination of yogurt, tomatoes and lemon juice.

  • Recipe: Combine 2 tablespoons of tomato pulp, 1 tablespoon of lemon juice and a heaping tablespoon of yogurt. Apply this mixture to your face. Wash off with cold water after 20 minutes.
  • How it works: Lemon offers powerful bleaching properties to remove tan coloring. Tomato juice acts as a natural toner. Yogurt moisturizes and nourishes, making your skin soft and supple.

Aloha Mask: Pineapples are a symbol of tropical getaways and southern hospitality. They also make a great sun-recovery mask to prevent dehydrated skin symptoms.

  • Recipe: Mix one tablespoon of honey with 2 tablespoons of pineapple pulp. Apply the mixture to your face, then wash off with water after five minutes.
  • How it works: Pineapple contains enzymes that help remove dead cells from tanned and burnt skin. They are also rich in antioxidants and vitamin C. These ingredients neutralize damaging free radicals and slow down the aging process.

Almond Grind: Grab a handful of almonds to get rid of unwanted tan and prevent dehydrated skin symptoms.

  • Recipe: Grind 4-5 almonds with rose water. Once you have a paste, add lemon juice. Scrub onto tanned areas. After the paste dries, rinse off with cold water.
  • How it works: Almonds are natural bleaching agents, plus they are high in vitamin E, which is great for your skin.

Milk berry Mask: This one works wonders on your skin, and tastes great too! Feel free to lick your lips and fingers while applying.

  • Recipe: Crush 4 strawberries and mix with 2 tablespoons of milk cream. Apply the mask to your face and leave in place for 30 minutes. Rinse off with water.
  • How it works: Strawberries offer skin-lightening properties that reduce dark spots and freckles and improve your complexion. The milk cream moisturizes your skin and provides the deep nourishment it needs after prolonged sun exposure.

Lemato Pack: Removing sun tan is easy if you have a sack of potatoes on hand. This formula lightens your skin and restores a healthy glow.

  • Recipe: Using a grinder, extract the juice of one potato. Mix this with one tablespoon of lemon juice. Apply the pack to your face or other exposed areas. Wash off with cold water after 35 minutes.
  • How it works: Potatoes are packed with vitamins, minerals, protein and fibers. They soothe your skin, reducing inflammation and lightening skin tone.

Breakfast Paste: Have you ever enjoyed a glass of orange juice and some yogurt for a quick, healthy breakfast? This combination makes a great tan remover, too!

  • Recipe: Mix one tablespoon of yogurt and one tablespoon of orange juice. Apply to your face and leave on for 30 minutes. Rinse off with water.
  • How it works: The yogurt is a natural moisturizer that makes your skin soft. Orange juice is rich in vitamin C, which fights skin blemishes and improves texture and tone. Oranges also contain collagen, which slows the aging process.

Applying these natural, home-made remedies will provide the nourishment your skin needs to recover from time outdoors. Combined with your regular daily skin care routine, these solutions will help prevent dehydrated skin symptoms and keep your skin young and healthy.
