It is that time of the year again. The lights are shining all over the city, and there is a beautiful pine tree in your house with a star on the top. It is that time of the year when you play Christmas carols, zip a hot drink, and gather with your loved ones by a crackling fire, while the scent roasting chestnuts, gingerbread, cinnamon, mulled wine, and vanilla keeps your soul warm.
We cannot deny it: Christmas is a special time of year. Nevertheless, presents are not the only thing that makes the holiday season great. Do not get overshadowed with gifts, new clothes or toys. They are only a fleeting joy that is not sustainable over time. For me everything is about love; that is the real essence of the season.
We human beings are an endless fountain of love. The most beautiful thing in the world is to be able to share and imprint a loving feeling in all my actions and projects. However, I am aware that only those who love themselves deeply can love others. We must value, respect and love ourselves so we can develop all our potential.
True love doesn’t destroy, kill or limit. On the contrary, love is freedom. Those who love us will never try to dim our light, and they will feel happy about our success. Love is a constructive, creative force; it pushes us forward and helps us overcome challenges and difficult moments.
I would like to share with you 4 ways of showing love to the people that surround you:
- Don’t try to possess other people. You aren’t anybody’s owner and you cannot control their thoughts and actions. Humans are not objects to be collected.
- Accept that every human being is a universe with their own desires, experiences, perspectives, and feelings. Each person is responsible for their own existence. Let them be themselves, and bloom at their own pace.
- Advise and help others to deal with their issues, but do not try to solve their problems. Overprotecting our loved ones is an unhealthy behavior. Allow them to live their successes and their failures. Accompany their path in life, but encourage their independence and resilience.
- Always be honest. Lying is never an act of love.
Show your love all the time and in all circumstances, don’t limit yourself. Sharing this feeling will enrich your spirit. Say “I love you” any time you feel it and remember that love isn’t just expressed in words.
I invite you to maintain the Christmas spirit all year long. Let us strive to make it more meaningful. Value authenticity more than ostentation. Look forward to the festivities and the excitement they bring, but remember Christmas is about hope, faith, sharing, and being grateful, but above all, Christmas is about love.
