You also know that wearing sun screen is important. But…you might not know that coating your skin with a high-level SPF isn’t enough. You need one with broad spectrum coverage to effectively protect your skin from aging.
Most sunscreens protect your skin from UVB rays. These are the primary “sunburn rays.” However, the sun also gives off UVA rays. These penetrate the skin, too. To fully protect your skin from the aging effects of the sun, look for a broad-spectrum sun block. Choose a product with at least SPF 15 that contains either mexoryl, oxybenzone or avobenzone for UVA protection.
Myth: My moisturizing bar soap will keep my skin healthy.
Truth: While a bar of soap and water may remove dirt from your face, it can also remove essential oils. Frequent washing with water and soap can damage skin rather than nourish it. As you scrub, you may be dehydrating your skin. Bars of soap are held together with binding agents that have a higher pH than products designed specifically for facial cleansing. These will dry out your skin. To keep skin youthful, it’s important to use facial products that keep moisture in, to help your skin maintain hydration and elasticity.
